Thanks to grant funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) through the Montgomery County Recovery Office, the Norristown Senior Center has begun a multi-phase renovation project to make the facility safer, more accessible, and more efficient.

Phase 1: Building Upgrades

The first phase focuses on essential repairs and structural improvements that will benefit everyone who visits the Center:

·       Entrance Renovations: Both front entrances are being upgraded to improve accessibility, safety, and protection from the elements. This includes new walkways, lighting, and design improvements.

·       Window Replacement: All windows in the building are being replaced to increase energy efficiency, improve natural lighting, and enhance indoor comfort.

·       Roof Resurfacing: The roof is being resurfaced to prevent future leaks and protect the building for the long term.

These improvements are funded through ARPA grants designated for community infrastructure and recovery. The County Recovery Office is supporting projects that directly benefit residents, especially seniors who rely on community spaces like the Norristown Senior Center.

Phase 2: Accessibility Enhancements

Once Phase 1 is complete, the second phase will focus on making the building more accessible and user-friendly:

·       Elevator Installation: A new elevator will provide full access to the second floor, which is currently difficult for some visitors to reach.

·       ADA-Compliant Restrooms: Several bathrooms will be fully renovated to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Upgrades will include wider doorways, accessible fixtures, and safety features.

Why These Upgrades Matter

The Norristown Senior Center is more than a building. It is a community hub that supports older adults with social activities, meals, wellness programs, and health services.

These renovations are not just about fixing what is outdated. They are about making the Center safer, more welcoming, and better prepared to serve current and future needs. With improved access, energy efficiency, and structural reliability, the Center will continue to be a vital resource for the seniors of Norristown.

We will continue to share updates as the work progresses. Thank you to the Montgomery County Recovery Office and the ARPA grant program for making this project possible and thank you to our community for your ongoing support.
