Plein air painting is a technique the 19th-century Impressionist popularized by painting outdoors, directly from nature to capture light, atmosphere, and scenes in real-time. It relies on portable easels and quick brushstrokes, often completing works in one session. In this workshop you will set up in the garden and paint directly from nature. Your composition will be established, and you’ll focus on large areas, shapes and tonal values. You will paint quickly to capture light as it changes. This technique avoids excessive details, and we will start with addressing lights and darks in your painting from your instructor, Bill Ryan. You don’t need to know how to draw or paint to have fun in this Workshop! About the Instructor: Bill Ryan has been interested in art for 50 years and the primary driver for this interest is his experience of aesthetic response. Bill can see something or imagine something that is emotionally moving and finds the need to express it. For all artists, development in art requires practice and more practice. Sometimes the study of color alone could be enough but there is much more. Bill likes to draw and paint, mostly abstract. You will learn to view the world differently in his Workshop. His classes sell out which is a direct result of his knowledge of his craft and teaching ability
