Norristown Facilities Improvement

Exciting News:

We are thrilled to announce that Montco SAAC has been awarded grant money to modernize our Norristown Activity Center. 

 

This project will enhance the safety and accessibility of the building with new ADA compliant entryways and security doors, and energy efficient windows.

What improvements are being made—and why?
We’re upgrading safety, accessibility, and comfort across the building.

Highlights include:

  • ADA-compliant entryways and new security doors for safer, easier access

  • Energy-efficient windows to improve comfort and reduce utility costs

  • A new elevator to make all floors accessible

  • Modernized Chain Street wing with ADA-compliant bathrooms, new floors, and ceilings

  • Technology and furniture updates to support today’s programs and classes

 

What’s the timeline for construction? Will dates change?

 

Projected schedule (subject to change):

  • Phase 1 (Sept–Nov 2025): Roof resurfacing (early Sept), Main Entry remodeling (mid-Sept), Window installation (late Oct), Elevator installation (early Nov)

  • Phase 2: Interior Chain Street wing modernization (Nov 2025–Mar 2026)

  • Final Upgrades: Technology & furniture (Mar–Jun 2026)
    We’ll post any schedule changes promptly.

 

Will programs or services be interrupted?


Our goal is to keep core services running throughout, with minimal disruption. Some activities may shift to different rooms or temporary spaces while work is underway. If a session needs to move or pause, we’ll notify participants in advance and share alternatives.

 

How do I enter the building during construction? What about parking and accessibility?


During Main Entry remodeling (mid-September 2025), a clearly marked temporary entrance will be available, with signage and staff assistance as needed. We’ll maintain accessible routes whenever possible and communicate any short-term detours or closures. Details on parking, way finding, and accessibility will be updated on our website and posted on-site.

 

How is this project funded, and how can I support it?
